    Most used travel lens

I will be heading to Europe for the first time in May and was wondering what lens range do some of you "seasoned" travellers find most useful?

My camera is a Nikon D70.

Really don't want to carry a ton of gear.  Never having been to any of the smaller European towns and judging from some of the narrow streets and alleys that seem to be favourites of photographers I thought a wide angle zoom such as my Nikon 12 - 24mm lens would be useful.

Also, I thought my Nikon 70 - 210 zoom (an older smaller lens) would round out the gear side.

However, do you think adding a mid range zoom such as my Nikon 18 - 70 kit lens would find much use?

    1) a wide lens like the 10-22 for those old towns

    2) a 24-70 with near macro for walking around

    3) a 70-200

    4) tele-extender

if you are gonna travel and only want to take one lens, i would grab one of this one, so long as you don't mind using sigma

or this one from tamaron, it has IF so the lens length does not change

or if you want to stick with nikon, this seems like a good lens

My recommendation is to go light. Buy a good point and shoot and carry it with you at all times. Learn how the focus and light meter thinks and work with it as your speed/aperture controls. Unless you are going specifically for the purpose of photographing I suggest the lighter the better. Large equipment and expensive stuff is a burden.

PS All photographs I have posted from Paris, Vienna, Bratislava and Prague were taken with a 2 mp cannon .

Thanks to everyone for their help.

To John - you better get your contacts treated so they won't steam up before you get to that nude beach in Rio! Stick out tongue
