    Adding a copyright symbol

Hi all, does anyone have a easy way of doing this? I have created, with Ted's help, a file with my name in photoshop this can be added to the pictures. I am trying to automate this but no luck. People are saying you can do this in Lightroom and Photoshop but I can not find out how. The usual comment is do it in photoshop; where? Your help would be appreciated. Regards Peter

ps why is part of this in bold?

In Lightroom create a metadata preset.

Fill in the IPTC copyright with your text. Save etc.

Assign the preset to your image in the Library metadata panel under the Preset dropdown.

When you export, select the Add copyright checkbox.

The whole process can be applied to settings etc.

    Re: Adding a copyright symbol

Peter, the process John described is correct. You must add the copyright notice to the file's metadata during IMPORT. I use a preset for that. Rob Sylvan describes how to set it up on p. 77 of 'Photoshop Lightroom for Dummies' although you might need to back up a few pages to get the context of it.

Then in the export dialog box go down to the Metadata section and select the 'Add copyright watermark' checkbox. Lightroom will then add the copyright notice to the lower left of the picture. See page 222 of the same book. The result looks like this:

Thank you Les, I have tried to do this many times but it does not work for me. I import form my hard drive, to Lightroom copyright checked, export to my hard drive copyright checked. No copyright on picture. So I give up. Regards Peter

    Re: Adding a copyright symbol

Peter, try this. Go to the Library module and select the picture you want to export. Go over to the right hand panel, scroll down and display the Metadata. The little arrow box beside it should say 'all'. Scroll through the metadata all the way to the copyright info at the bottom. Check to see that the 'copyright status' says copyrighted and the 'copyright' field contains the text that you want, eg. © Peter Schultz, 2009. If that data is not there, then your import preset did not set it up properly.

You can go back to the top of that Metadata panel and you will see a 'presets' pull-down where you can edit or define import presets. Then you have to select your preset during the import process to have the data applied. Whatever reference book you are using should cover how to set it all up. It's kind of a preliminary thing you should do before importing your first pictures. Once it's set up you won't need to change it very often.

I hope that helps. Let me know how it turns out for you.

Hi Les, thanks for the help. Nice picture of the girl at work.

It does not work for me. Don't try to help anymore. It is a waste of your time. The picture is tif 16bit imported from hard drive. Then exported to hard drive to be printed in CS2. No copyright info on picture. The reference book only talks about adding copyright data to web posting. That does not work either.End of story. Regards Peter

I can come over and help work through this with you....Smile

CS2....I think you have to add a text layer and your copyright text...could use an action to do this...or a brush etc.
