I installed an Intel 40 gig SSD as a boot drive in the Photoshop pc today. At $129 from Nigel Computers this is not the fastest SSD available, but my boot time went from 3 minutes 25 seconds to 50 seconds. How cool is that!  Photoshop loads in under 6 seconds the first time it is clicked.

To install the SSD I defragged the original disk, cloned it using Ghost, and then fixed the boot issues. AHCI was enabled as recommended here and there.

I know that some of you guys really really want one of these Of course, the kid has been using SSD's in his gaming PC's for months now. So I am just following along...

A Solid State Drive(SSD) is a cool thing. I just love how fast this pc boots, opens programs, and shutdown now.

I think i will get one. (LOL). 

The old laptop received a transplant of a SSD for the boot drive. Boot time went from 200 to 30 seconds.

This is a welcome performance improvement. There is so much developer stuff on this laptop it was running vey slow.  It now has a bit more life in it.

I used an Intel 80 gig M series SSD for the transplant. The superfetch service was manually disabled as it was no longer needed. Windows 7 did recognize the SSD as such and took it out of the defrag disk options.

There you go Peter Young - you can fix up your old laptop!
