I'm thinking of converting a Canon 30d to IR.

I should be able to do this....Big Smile, though time will tell.

It is most likely a 4 evening job is all goes well.

I purchased some IR glass and a Canon 30D to be converted by myself to 800nm (~true B&W) IR camera.  The 800nm longpass filter is a bit less than the 830nm filters used by some but greater than the standard 720nm. It's an unknown if I made a good decision here LOL.

    Generic IR camera thread

I am thinking of converting one of my old D70 camera's to IR.

Currently trying to decide the best filter to use.

Not sure I would attempt my own conversion - Life Pixel has a special on right now.

Regular conversion reduced from $400.00 to $250.00 - plus shipping of course. ($75.00)

Plus $50.00 for any filter other than the normal one.

It would be interesting to see the results if all three of us started shooting IR - could provide a challenge for all of us. (Peter Y, John, Ted - anyone else?)

Friendly knowledgeable competition is good...please convert your camera one way or another Ted.

Looking at the 'how to' for a D70 it looks much easier than the Canon 30d to modify.

The last site mentioned is a bit dated - I did not go through all the items and there is probably still some good information in there but it is a bit dated.

It is, but the discussion of 800nm filters and what they do made me more comfortable on my guess that I wanted a 800nm filter for true balanced BW right out of the camera. I am not saying this filter is best, just what I want to do this time around.

The 600 nm filters look interesting with funky colors being rendered.  Maybe next time.

Just picked up a very minty 30D.  Almost as good condition as the D60. Thanks Jack!

Now do I just tear it appart...Stick out tongue or wait a bit until the IR glass arrives..
